How to know when it’s time for a rebrand

WHAT IS A REBRAND?

Rebranding is the process of changing the image of an existing brand or a company/business image. It is a market strategy of giving a new concept, brand strategy, or change in design for an existing established brand. Rebranding intends to develop a different identity for a brand that stands out in the minds of consumers and differentiates from competitors.

  1. A new name
  2. A new logo and/or brand mark
  3. A new Visual identity (including brand fonts, colours and imagery)
  4. A redesigned website
  5. A new brand vision and/or mission
  6. A Brand Tone of voice

6 SIGNS YOU NEED TO REBRAND YOUR BUSINESS

1. YOUR DIY BRANDING DOES NOT REPRESENT YOUR BUSINESS

A lot of businesses tend to DIY their branding in the beginning stages as it can be hard to know who your core audience is and your brand goals. This can be okay for a while but in the long run, it may hurt you. As your business grows, your visions change you may feel as if your current DIY/premade logo doesn’t represent your business in the right way.

2. YOUR BRAND DOESN’T STAND OUT FROM YOUR COMPETITION

You aren’t standing out from the competition resulting in your brand being drowned out by your competitors. The best way to differentiate from the competition is to have a strong brand strategy that includes brand values, mission, vision, and personality. Remember a brand is a person’s feeling about a product, service, or company. If your audience considers your brand and your competitors interchangeable, then it’s time to rebrand.

3. YOUR NOT ATTRACTING YOUR IDEAL CLIENT

If you’ve decided that you’d like to target another type of customer, a rebrand should be on the cards for you. You’ll be able to connect with your ideal target audience on a deeper level if your branding resonates with them.

4. YOU’VE OUTGROWN YOUR BRAND

Your business has taken off in the right direction and it’s doing great, but If you feel as if your direction has changed, you’re targeting a new audience or you have new products or services, then it’s definitely time for a rebrand. Your brand should reflect your vision and if this isn’t the case then you may confuse potential customers.

5. YOUR CURRENT BRAND IS OUTDATED

If your logo or visual identity has been created based on a trending design style it can start to look outdated after a couple of years. The overall look and feel of your brand should be timeless and based on strategy, every design decision should be purposeful so that the final result is tailored to your business.

Fusing a design element or design trend that’s unique to your business is fine, even having a logo created in a trendy style is okay but I wouldn’t recommend doing this if the reason is that everyone else is doing it.

6. YOU HAVE NEVER HAD A COMPLETE BRAND IDENTITY

Maybe you only have a logo instead of a full brand identity. If that’s the case, things may not be looking cohesive or well put together. Successful brands often have a Brand strategy, colour palette, font selection, logo variations, and much more. You will be able to have this when working with a brand designer. Your designer should also provide brand guidelines at the end of the project that will help with keeping your brand consistent.

DO YOU RESONATE WITH ANY OF THESE SIGNS?

If you resonate with any of these signs, you may want to think about investing in a rebrand!

Here are a few pointers that will help you prepare and get the full benefit of a rebrand:

  1. Invest in a professional designer

A professional designer can be expensive. But be of a big value to your business! A professional designer can help set you apart from your competitors and create a memorable brand that is well worth it in the long run.
  2. Listen to your audience

Your brand should speak to your audience – I know it’s hard but try to keep your personal preferences to the side. To see results, more sales, and a deeper connection with your audience, your branding needs to be designed with them in mind and think about what’s best for your brand’s business. Put yourself in the shoes of your audience and try to see things from their perspective before making big design decisions.
